Track Racing Results – Week 1 (23 October 2014)

Despite a poor showing from the GCC Senior Track riders on what was an almost perfect 30 degree evening, the first track racing session of the year was held at the Geelon West Velodrome (Church St) on Wednesday night. With good junior numbers Pam and Nev decided to run a 3 x Scratch Race event to kick things off for the new season. It was obvious that the youngsters had been putting in a few KMs over the winter period with solid results coming in from Mackeely (promoted to seniors after her 1st round win), Dom and Lincoln. These guys are not only getting faster but they are also getting older ! Watch out seniors. Senior racing was somewhat hamstrung […]

Well done to Oliver Kent Spark who today wrote his name into the record books as the 2014 winner of the 99th Melbourne to Warrnambool  cycle classic. The Warrny is one of the oldest and longest at 273K races on the international calendar. Oliver’s name will be etched into the record books along side some of the greats of Australian and international cycling to have won the race. Oliver bypassed the recent NRS Tour of Tasmania to focus on this event. Racing Wrap

Racing Wrap The Presidents Handicap was run and won on the 7.8K St Leonards course Sunday week ago. Despite 18 GCC riders competing in the Country champs the day before a good field of riders assembled for the race. Buoyed by the unseasonal warm conditions and the near flat course average speeds were well and truly up across all bunches. Most bunches rode at or just above their predicated average speeds. But it was the front markers making the most of the ideal conditions were able to gain the most to get the result. Riding of Limit Kanye Bridger despite riding away from his tiring bunch was able to hold on for his first handicap victory. In a close sprint […]
