Despite being in the depths of a cold winter there has been a flurry of racing action in the past few weeks at all levels, local, state and national. Below is a quick wrap up of how some GCC riders have gone.
National Cyclocross Championships
Congratulations to Tom Ovens who finished 9th on the weekend in the 2016 Australian National Elite Men Cyclocross Championships. Combining both his outstanding MTB skills and road craft in his first season racing CX. Great effort Tom!
Victorian Time Trial & Road Race Championships
Last weekend the Victorian Time Trial & Road Race Championships were held in Lang Lang. Congratulations to new state Time Trial Champions Peter Quibell (M6) & Doug Barrett (M9). Also a podium finish for Nick Squillari 2nd (M1).
In the road race Bruce Sarah was 2nd in M8. There were a number of other riders who finished just outside the podium positions, well done to all competitors.
Victorian Junior Championships
A number of GCC junior riders ventured up to Ned Kelly County, Glenrowan for the State Junior titles. Unfortunately sickness and injury stop some from performing at their best. The stand out performance was from Daniel Warfe who finished 4th in the U13. Just missing a spot on the podium by millimeters. Well done to all the riders that participated against some tough opposition.
Over 70 riders converged on Sutherlands Creek last weekend for the combine with Footscray Cycling Club. Racing was fast and furious in fantastic conditions. A grade saw one of the best fields we have seen with a number of NRS riders including the Avanti Racing Team using the event as a final hit out before the Tour of South West. Some strong GCC results saw us have the edge over FCC on this occasion. Senior and Junior race results can be found here.
Donald Wilson Road Race Aggregate
Things are tight in the Donald Wilson Road Race Aggregate with only a handful of race remaining. But the final standings are far from done with only your best 10 results (out of 14) counting. Much can change in the standings! Current standings can be found here.
