Round 2 of the “apparently” Summer Series headed to Eastern Gardens. Other than everyone talking about the weather, people were asking where have all the B graders gone. May be the fickle weather kept a few away? Let’s hope we start to see the good numbers of a few months back again.
The juniors were again the stars of the show with big numbers not afraid to tackle the damp roads. We welcomed yet another new member to the racing ranks, a now weekly occurrence. All credit to Danni Bridger for creating a fantastic environment for all the kids.
The senior ranks have seen a number of new riders. All seem to be enjoying their new racing experience. In D grade John Miro took the victory after a strong ride. There were some good numbers in D grade with Mark Turnley taking the win despite finding himself off the back of the bunch at one stage. In B grade it was the battle of the Doc’s with Harry Weisinger and Andrew Cox breaking away late in the race. Andrew winning the sprint to take his maiden victory. A grade had a strong field, with the pace hot from the start. Mark Fagg testing his legs off the front a number of times. In the end it was Ballarat’s Liam White who won the bunch kick.

Financial Review Cycling Challenge
Well done to a number of GCC riders who took part in the annual Financial Review Cycling Challenge on the weekend. Nick Squillari, Daniel Lamb, Chris Fry, Greg Stewart, Daniel Wilson, Nathan Aston, Jamie Werner & Will Wettenhall all part of the Gartland Real-estate teams that finished 1 & 2 overall. Nick winning the KOM, beaten only by pro’s, Richie Porte & Nathan Hass, up the steep Arthurs Seat Climb.
Brendan and Declan Macauley also suited up for the challenge. Brendan riding off in the top 30 for the KOM title after the teams event. Declan riding an impressive 15 minutes for the 3k climb that averages 8+% with 19% sections. Declan scored himself a photo with and signatures of all the pro’s on hand. That is sure to be the talk of the track amongst the juniors this week.
