Racing Round Up

Round 2 of the “apparently” Summer Series headed to Eastern Gardens. Other than everyone talking about the weather, people were asking where have all the B graders gone. May be the fickle weather kept a few away? Let’s hope we start to see the good numbers of a few months back again. The juniors were again the stars of the show with big numbers not afraid to tackle the damp roads. We welcomed yet another new member to the racing ranks, a now weekly occurrence. MyLaps timing system

Since the start of 2012 the GCC has been using its MyLaps timing system to run, time and place all riders who race with us. The data base of results on the web site continues to grow giving us a history of results for every rider who has raced. This timing system is the envy of many clubs and has taken us to the next level in terms of offering fast and accurate results to all riders. This timing system has been used to time events for other clubs including Cycling Victoria. 2014 Memberships

2014 GCC memberships are now available through the Cycling Australia web site. The bonuses being you still only pay the price of a 12 month membership. A 2014 membership will allow you to compete for the remainder of 2013 and right through until December 31st 2014. Ensure you select Geelong Cycling Club when filling in the online form. Anyone with an inquiry can contact the club for more information.

Racing Wrap

Spring Handicap The final race of the road season was held on Saturday afternoon in warm and windy conditions. The smallest field of the road season turned out but riders were keen to take on the Parkers Road circuit without arm or leg warmers for a change. New rider Aaron Hickey showed the field a clean pair of heals leading from start to finish in a show of strength. Track is back!

The change to daylight savings means GCC track training and racing is kicking off again. Training with Ollie at the Geelong West Track starts on Monday 21st October 4.00 – 5.30pm – Juniors 5.30 – 7.00pm – Seniors Racing starts Wednesday 23rd October 6.30 – 8.00 (You require a Gold Licence to Race) (Arrive by 6.10 for Warm-Up and Registration) Track Season Each GCC Members (Seniors and Juniors) are required to pay: – $50 Per Person or $100 Family to ride the Track Season – $50 Bike Usage (If you require to use one of the Club Bikes for Training and Racing Monday and Wednesday Nights)

LSL SuperCrit hosted by SKCC

The atmosphere was electric and the sun was shining for the LSL Supercrit hosted by St.Kilda Cycling Club on Sunday. Conditions couldn’t have been better for what was to be the farewell race for cycling legend, Baden Cooke. Geelong Cycling Club was well represented across the grades with a fantastic performance by Emma Scott (@escotty38) taking 2nd placing in the Women’s B grade event. Congratulations Emma! Congratulations to Nick Squillari!

Nick won well, 25 seconds clear of Jason Spencer, of Blackburn, and Beijing Olympian, Tasmanian Mark Jamieson. “I am pretty stoked with this win”, Squillari said. “I am just so proud to win a title, especially in Victoria which has a strong cycling scene.”   “I am an adopted Victorian, and to get a Viccy title is a terrific result”, said Squillari, who rides for the Joel Pearson-managed African Wildlife Safari team. 2013/14 Summer Criterium Series

The 2013/14 seven race summer criterium series kicks off on Saturday the 16th of November. The series will be raced at 3 different courses, Belmont Criterium Track (3), Eastern Gardens (2) & Ocean Grove (2). Riders in each criterium of the summer series, regardless of grade will earn points towards the overall series prize. As with the past seasons the final series winner will be the person who accumulates the most points in the series. Series prize money will be paid down to 10th place. A surge in interest in junior cycling means the club is in need of a couple of bikes for junior training. These bikes will be used on a Tuesday afternoon at junior training by new comers wanting to give cycling a go.
