Despite impending bad weather, a low cloud base and dark conditions the Geelong cycling Club held it’s 2014 Track Championship last night at the Geelong West Oval. The event was attended by over a dozen eager junior riders as well as eight seniors, all keen to contest for the title of Club Track Champion and to find out who would take home the newly created “Pam and Nev Williams Track Championship Trophy”. This trophy has been established to reward the winner of the aggregate points series and is a perpetual trophy, to be held for a period of one year by the winner.
Races were held on the night for Juniors, Seniors and for the first time in the history of the Geelong Cycling Club a womens track race. The race program consisted of;
Race 1 – Time Trial (500m sprint from standing start)
Race 2 – Scratch Race (12 laps)
Race 3 – Sprint Elimination

Acknowledgements
Congratulations should be extended to not only the riders who participated in this event but also to
- all the parents who turned up week after week with their children to help run the races,
- Pam and Nev Williams for running the races each week and without whom GCC’s track series would have ended many years ago,
- Oliver King for coaching both Juniors and Seniors every week often at the sacrifice of his own riding,
- Danni and Craig Bridger for organising the children, booking the venue and ferry half the field around in the van,
- Ben Andrews for setting up this web site so that the results could be posted each week.
So to wrap up, a fantastic end to a fantastic track season. This was my first with the Geelong Cycling Club (with any club for that matter) but will certainly not be my last.
Please come back next year and encourage as many others to do the same as without your on going support these sessions will cease to exist.
Tony Butler
PS – For anyone who may be interested, I have made a booking for the Geelong Cycling Club at DISC on Sunday 11 May 2014 from 11am until 2pm (I know it’s Mothers Day but that was all that was available !). This is a first from my knowledge for the GCC so I would encourage as many as possible to attend. We have a 3 hour window of exclusive use to this world class facility so please be sure to consider this rare opportunity. If you are interested in attending, please email me on tonybutler73@gmail.com to secure your place.
Until next season. Ride safe !
