Track is Back!

The Geelong Cycling Club Track Racing season kick off on Monday the 20th of October at Geelong West Velodrome. Season format will see training on Monday, racing on Wednesday. Training for Juniors will be between 4 & 5:30pm. Senior training will be between 6 & 8pm Racing on a Wednesday evening will start from 6pm for a warm up, with racing kicking off at 6:30. Members, Non-members & first timers are all encouraged to get along and have a go. For more information see James & Ryan at the track. Oliver Kent Spark Melbourne to Warrnambool Champion

Well done to Oliver Kent Spark who today wrote his name into the record books as the 2014 winner of the 99th Melbourne to Warrnambool  cycle classic. The Warrny is one of the oldest and longest at 273K races on the international calendar. Oliver’s name will be etched into the record books along side some of the greats of Australian and international cycling to have won the race. Oliver bypassed the recent NRS Tour of Tasmania to focus on this event. Victorian Masters & Junior Criterium Championships 2015

Geelong Cycling Club is pleased to announce that they have secured the rights to host the Victorian Masters & Junior Criterium Championships for the next 3 years starting in 2015. Securing these Championships is a significant achievement for GCC and a great show of faith from Cycling Victoria. The championships will be held on the popular Eastern Gardens circuit, with the first event at the end of March 2015. Race Light Policy

Effective of the 28th of June 2014 Cycling Victoria has introduced a rear light policy for road racing events. For all road races, which are not run under a rolling road closure or closed road, conditions every participant must wear a constant (not set to flashing) red light on the back seat post of their bike.  The light must be operational during the entire race and must be red, prominent, and visible from 200 metres.  It is to be attached to be visible from the rear. Racing Wrap

Racing Wrap The Presidents Handicap was run and won on the 7.8K St Leonards course Sunday week ago. Despite 18 GCC riders competing in the Country champs the day before a good field of riders assembled for the race. Buoyed by the unseasonal warm conditions and the near flat course average speeds were well and truly up across all bunches. Most bunches rode at or just above their predicated average speeds. But it was the front markers making the most of the ideal conditions were able to gain the most to get the result. The Victorian Country Championships were raced at Harcourt on Saturday. In a great showing, Geelong Cycling Club had a total of eighteen senior & junior riders compete in the championship. Neville Williams Honoured

  Congratulations to GCC stalwart Neville Williams who was a recent runner up in the Julius Patching Sports Official of the Year Award; at the 2014 Victorian Olympic Council Inc AGM. An outstanding achievement and thoroughly deserved accolade for one of the country’s most outstanding and respected cycling officials. Neville was an accomplished cyclist in his own right before turning his love of the sport to officiating.  Along with his wife Pam, they are regulars at most CV and national races. GCC is lucky enough to have them present at our track racing and when their busy schedule permits at our road events.

Track Training / Racing – DISC 11th May 2014

A quick reminder that the Geelong Cycling Club have the EXCLUSIVE use of the world class DISC centre on 11 May 2014 between 11am and 2pm (Mothers Day). The format of the day will be finalised once we arrive and are able to confirm attendance, but is likely to consist of 1.5hr of warm up / getting used to the banked velodrome, followed by some impromptu racing. Please note that this event does not form part of the GCC race calendar but rather a trial to gauge the level of interest in utilising this facility. 2014 Track Championships Results

Despite impending bad weather, a low cloud base and dark conditions the Geelong cycling Club held it’s 2014 Track Championship last night at the Geelong West Oval. The event was attended by over a dozen eager junior riders as well as eight seniors, all keen to contest for the title of Club Track Champion and to find out who would take home the newly created “Pam and Nev Williams Track Championship Trophy”. This trophy has been established to reward the winner of the aggregate points series and is a perpetual trophy, to be held for a period of one year by the winner.
