Track Racing Results – Week 1 (23 October 2014)

Despite a poor showing from the GCC Senior Track riders on what was an almost perfect 30 degree evening, the first track racing session of the year was held at the Geelon West Velodrome (Church St) on Wednesday night. With good junior numbers Pam and Nev decided to run a 3 x Scratch Race event to kick things off for the new season. It was obvious that the youngsters had been putting in a few KMs over the winter period with solid results coming in from Mackeely (promoted to seniors after her 1st round win), Dom and Lincoln. These guys are not only getting faster but they are also getting older ! Watch out seniors. Senior racing was somewhat hamstrung […]

Racing Wrap

Tri Series Round 1 Round 1 of the Tri Series with Colac and Ballarat was raced on the weekend. Gail winds, rain and even snow, as reported by the locals the day before had passed and a perfect day for racing was had. Light winds and bright sunshine were enjoyed by all riders on the Meredith circuit. A strong presence of Geelong riders in B & C grade ensured Geelong heads in to round 2 at Dereel hosted by Ballarat with a commanding 18 point lead over BSCC. How it happened After just returning from his Belgium adventure Nick Squillari, a strong supporter of club racing wasted no time in strapping on a number. Along with Kris Hink they were GCC’s […]

Presidents Report, July 2014

I am writing this report the evening following a visit to my friend Rory Wilson, 64 of Drysdale who is in the spinal unit of Melbourne’s Austin Hospital. A week ago Rory collided with the rear of a truck in Portarlington sustaining critical injuries resulting in the severing of his spinal chord leaving him a paraplegic. This has been a sobering, even confronting experience for everybody in Rory’s life.  In spite of Rory’s remarkable resilience there is no escaping the magnitude of the task ahead for the Wilson Family and I wish them the very best.Rory’s event is vanishingly rare in it’s outcome however it brings into stark relief the challenges facing cyclists on public roads and the responsibility we all accept for our own and […]
